IPControl Refresh Timing Updates

On the old IPControl server updates were pushed out every 20 minutes starting on the hour to Active Directory. The new IPControl server has been configured to send updates every 15 minutes starting on the hour.

It takes roughly 10 minutes for an update to propagate through the Active Directory forest. The default TTL (Time To Live) for IPControl DNS records is one hour, DNS record information may be cached on a server for up to this long.

The status of a DNS update can be tracked across all Active Directory servers from url: https://dns.usgs.gov/cgi-bin/ad-dns
