FBMS SAP GUI Secure Network Communications (SNC) starting 12/17/18

BIO is going to turn-on Secure Network Communications (SNC) as part of the FBMS December 2018 release.  The SNC encrypts the communications between the application layer and the SAP GUI on the user’s desktop and gives FBMS much better security.  The BIO incorporated the necessary libraries in with the last SAP GUI upgrade (version 7.50 patch 5)  in the install package that the DOI provided.  Sites that used the package to push out SAP GUI to their FBMS users should not have any issues.  However, sites that have installed the SAP GUI manually and may have not noticed that there was an additional check mark required during the install, will need to install the SNC libraries manually.  Also, any users that are still on the 7.40 version will need to upgrade immediately to SAP GUI 7.50 patch 5.  Both these types of users will receive an error when entering a SAP GUI transaction after December 17th.

For instructions on installing the SNC libraries or upgrading to SAP GUI 7.50 patch 5, please see the tst FBMS page at https://tst.usgs.gov/applications/administrative/financial-and-business-management-system-fbms-2/
