Validation of Security Roles – Due
November 19, 2014
Action Required by Science Center Directors and Program Managers
The S&SS Information System Boundary accounts for all Science Center and Program information systems that are not already part of the other Assessment and Authorization (A&A) Information System boundaries. Therefore, the action below is only required for S&SS not the other A&A IT System boundaries.
A unique S&SS asset number has been assigned to each Science Center and/or Program to facilitate tracking of security activities and reporting. Science Center Directors and Program Managers fulfill the role of Asset System Owners and Information Owners as defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-100 Section 8.2.2 and 8.2.3. In summary, at the S&SS Asset level, this role is responsible for procurement and operations of systems, deployment of security requirements, and determining who has access to the data/information.
To assist with these responsibilities, each S&SS Asset Owner is required to appoint an S&SS Asset Security Manager (ASM). This person is typically the IT lead for the Science Center or Program.
ACTION: By November 19, 2014, please validate the name of the employee accountable as the ASM for your Asset by reviewing this link:
