FY17 RBST Due
May 15, 2017
The purpose of this memorandum is to announce the required training for individuals with Significant Information Security Responsibilities (SISR). The Office of Management and Budget Circular A-130, Appendix III, as well as, the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), requires that the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) computer users with SISR complete Role-Based Security Training (RBST) on an annual basis. The Fiscal Year 2017 RBST trainingfor USGS employees and contractors must be completed by Monday, May 15, 2017. This includes Volunteers, Associates, and Emeritus. If you have direct information system duties or non-IT program tasks, you will be assigned this training.
In accordance with DOI directives the USGS is expanding RBST training to personnel with elevated privileged computer accounts (PR accounts).
The training will be assigned according to groups and tracked in DOI Learn. Group assignments will be based on an individual’s job functions, roles and responsibilities. RBST Group 1 will be assigned the Computer Security Incident Response Services (CSIRT) course only. RBST Groups 2, 3, and 4 will be assigned the CSIRT course and an additional course. All assigned training must be taken prior to completing the DOI Learn “2017 Role Based Security Training (RBST) Self Certification” course. This self-certifying step ensures that proper training credit is given.
