First Quarter Data Center Optimization Initiative Data Call
February 3, 2017
Information Technology Specialist, Data Center Managers,
Background
The Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA), which enacts and builds upon the requirements of the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) (now superseded by DCOI as established in OMB Memorandum M-16-19), requires that agencies (DOI) submit annual reports that are to include: comprehensive data center inventories; multi‐year strategies to consolidate and optimize data centers; performance metrics and a timeline for agency activities; and yearly calculations of investment and cost savings.
The Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) requires agencies to develop and report on data center strategies to consolidate inefficient infrastructure, optimize existing facilities, improve security posture, achieve cost savings, and transition to more efficient infrastructure, such as cloud services and inter-agency shared services.
All bureaus and offices of the Department of the Interior that operate a data center shall report their data center inventory and actual data center consolidation cost savings and avoidance for OPEN and CLOSED data centers through the DOI DCOI Data Center Portfolio. Not updating this information, as required, jeopardizes a USGS Science Centers ability to host a DOI data center.
