A&A BIA worksheet Due

July 3, 2014

From Megan Frayer Email dated June 24, 2014:

Thank you for all of your efforts so far in completion of the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) using the SharePoint tool. Although our goal of the Business Continuity Planning WebEx sessions was to be as clear as possible as to what is needed in the BIA and anticipate issues that might arise, we have fallen short in several areas as indicated by your questions and concerns.

To provide additional guidance and clarification, we have gathered the most common questions received so far into the “FAQs/Known Issues” section of the BIA tool instructions. If you have not yet had a chance to review this information, or have a copy of the instructions dated before 6/23/14, we highly encourage you to download the most recent BIA tool instructions at http://internal.usgs.gov/gio/security/FY2014_BIA_Tool_Instructions_062314.pdf.

FAQs/Known Issues include:

  • What BASIS code is being asked for in Section A?
  • The instructions in Section A say to identify all science and business functions and then asks for a corresponding BASIS+ Code. What if the System or S&SS Asset has something like 60 active BASIS+ projects and 300-400 associated account level codes? What should be entered into the BIA for Section A?
  • Known limitations for Section A.
  • If I am a Water Science Center, how do I consider my NWIS related functions in the BIA tool?
  • In Section C, Identify Dependencies, who are the stakeholders that should be listed?
  • The BIA instructions and email say that the System Owner or Asset Owner must complete the BIA tool. Can’t anyone else fill this out?
  • I know how to add rows to the BIA tool sections, but can I delete rows no longer needed?
  • If I have identified a function as supporting an MEF or ESA, should I immediately start planning for a 12 hour restore time that can be maintained for up to 30 days?
  • Printing a copy of the BIA

While we hope the update of the BIA Tool Instructions for FAQs/Known Issues will assist with the completion of the BIA, please continue to email any additional questions or concerns to gs-i_ana@usgs.gov.
