Outage Impact: The DOI SCCM site server, which hosts the WSUS Windows update
service, is experiencing a partial outage.
Update –
This service outage is no longer impacting the following:
- SCCM collection creation and membership
- Application creation and edits, distribution, deployments
- Operating systems deployments
This service outage continues to impact the following:
- Windows Security and Non-Security patches
- SCUP 3rd-party Patches
Description:
The SCCM site server is still not operating normally. The WSUS service is currently syncing the update catalog but can not respond to all requests due to hardware resource restrictions.
USGS staff continue to work with DOI to get this issue resolved.
Update: The WSUS service is currently syncing the update catalog but can not respond to all requests due to hardware resource restrictions. New hardware is currently being shipped to Sioux Falls to replace underperforming hardware. Once hardware is in place and configuration is complete, an update memo will be sent out.
All May ePatching deadlines have been extended to May 31st and are expected to complete as planned.
Actions:
There is currently no workaround for Windows Security, Non-Security, and SCUP 3rd-party patching in SCCM. We will send further updates after the SCCM hardware replacement. Sites can use Bigfix to deploy updates to their systems if needed before the extended deadline.
Update: Sites that created collections, applications, and deployments since the 15th of May must re-create these items. During the database maintenance and recovery period, actions that were taken in the environment could not be recovered. Please review all actions over the last week and recreate them as needed.
