Office 365: Known Issues

Issues due to the deployment of the Office 365/2016 STIG are being documented on the Office STIG page.

OneDrive won't sync after 1909 upgrade

A few users have reported that after upgrading to Windows 10 1909 using the task sequence in MECM, OneDrive fails to start and doesn’t show up in the task tray.

Go to the following RegKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive

Make sure the DWORD DisableFileSyncNGSC is set to 0.

Systems with limited network access fail to activate

Systems that show an exclamation point over their network icon  or claim to have no or limited access to doi.net  will not activate.

This seems to mostly affect Windows 8.1 systems.  To workaround this issue, connect to VPN using Ivanti Secure, close out of all office apps, and relaunch one of the O365 apps to bring up the activation prompts. This will allow the user to activate their 365 license.  The Colorado VPN Connection has been the most reliable for this workaround.

Opening .xlsx files in ArcGIS

Systems with Office 2016/365 and ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 or higher are unable to open .xlsx files. The following two workarounds have been provided:

PCFF failed to connect to the database

After moving to Office 365, PCFF 7.2 gives an error that it failed to connect to the database.  Before moving to Office 365, users that run PCFF should be upgraded to PCFF 7.3 using the MECM application 4-GS – USGS PCFF 7.3 which will automatically install the 2016 MS Database Engine.

If your site is not using MECM, after installing PCCF 7.3, the Microsoft Access 2016 Database Engine will need to be installed from here.

Dynamic Databases LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) using built-in database

Sites using Dynamic Databases LIMS in their labs with the built-in access database manager have a dependency on Office 2010. Please submit an Exceptions to IT Security Standard form to continue using Office 2010.

SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office

After upgrading from Office 2010 or 2013 to Office 2016/365, the SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office no longer works. Newer versions of Office require the SAS Add-In 7.12 (or later) for Microsoft Office Add-In.

More information can be found at SAS Support.

Opening OneNote Notebooks from personal drive

After moving to Office 365 and OneDrive for Business, you can no longer access your personal one drive space through the app.  However, users are still able to sign into their personal Microsoft account through the web client to migrate the notebooks over.  Only connecting directly to Office 365 with a personal Microsoft account is blocked.
