Deploy BWTST MECM Packages

These instructions only apply to Tier 3 sites, they do not apply to Tier 2 sites.

The BWTST develops packages that can optionally be deployed by Tier 3 MECM administrators at Tier 3 sites. These packages reside on the Tier 2 regional MECM servers located at Menlo Park, Denver, and Reston. The following instructions explain how to distribute a package to a Tier 3 MECM distribution point and create an advertisement to deploy the package to clients.

To choose a package to be deployed review the available BWTST MECM packages. These instructions use the BWTST Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.0.1 package as an example, although they can be used with any BWTST package.

Open the MECM consol: Start → All Programs → Microsoft System Center → Configuration Manager 2007 → ConfigMgr Console

Browse to Site Database → Computer Management → Software Distribution → Packages → BWTST → Adobe → Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.0.1 → Distribution Points

Right click on Distributions Points and select New Distribution Points

On the Welcome Screen, click Next

Select your Distribution Point(s) and click Next

Click Close

Browse to Site Database → Computer Management → Software Distribution → Packages → BWTST → Adobe → Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.0.1 → Package Status → Package Status → SiteName

Verify the State column displayed for your Distribution Point is “Installed”. If the state column for your Distribution Point displays “Install Pending”, then wait (the time will depend on package size and WAN speeds). Do not continue until the State column reads “Installed”, you may need to right click and select refresh to update the column.

Browse to Site Database → Computer Management → Software Distribution → Advertisements

Right click on an advertisement folder →  New →  Advertisement

In the New Advertisement Wizard, enter a Name such as Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.0.1 English to All Desktops and Laptops. For Package, select Browse, select BWTST → Adobe → Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.0.1 English
For Collection, select Browse, choose a collection. Click Next

Click
Select “Assign immediately after this event:” and select “As soon as possible” and click OK

Verify “Download content from distribution point and run locally” is selected in both areas

UNCHECK  “Allow clients to fall back to unprotected distribution points…” and click Next

On the Interaction window, Security windows and Summary window click Next

Click Close
