Resolving Distribution Errors

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

MECM content distributes to Distribution Points throughout the USGS environment over varying bandwidth speeds.  At times, distributions may fail.  It is possible to leverage an MECM report to determine distribution point failures and resolve them by redistributing content.  The MECM Support team is requesting the assistance of local MECM administrators in ensuring remediation of any distribution errors.  The MECM Support team requests that local MECM administrators follow the steps below to find any distribution errors, and taking into account the best timing based on the bandwidth needs of the site, re-distribute the failed content to their DPs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

In Internet Explorer, navigate to the following MECM report link:

Distribution Point Summary

  1. Each DP line will include information related to Package distribution status, DP features, and Disk Status.

  10. Click on the name of the server that has errors to view details

    11. Record the name of the Pkg ID for items with a failed state

Now that the package failure issues have been identified, the next step is to redistribute the packages as needed to the distribution points.

  1. Launch the Configuration Manager Console
  2. Navigate to Administration\Overview\Distribution Points
  3. Search for the name of the Distribution Point with errors to fix
  4. Right click on Distribution Point and choose Properties
  5. Navigate to the Content tab
  6. Find the Package ID noted to have failure and select “Redistribute”.  Please make note of the size of any Packages to assure to not overtax local bandwidth when redistributing content.
