SCCM 2012 Update collection membership rules on the Reboot and No Reboot collection

November 6, 2015

When SCCM 2012 was setup all systems “defaulted” to the NO REBOOT collection. Sites were expected to move systems that could automatically reboot after enterprise patching installs into the reboot collection. This would automatically remove them from the No Reboot collection.  It has been decided that all systems by default should now be “rebooted” unless otherwise specified by the local SCCM administrator. On Friday November 6, 2015 all existing enterprise deployments will be removed and systems by default will be added to the local site reboot collection. Starting Monday November 9, 2015, local sites can start moving systems they want to set to “no reboot” into the local No Reboot collection. As a system is added to the No Reboot collection it will automatically get removed from the Reboot collection. Local sites will have until the deadline of November 2015 patches (November 25th @ 2am) to move the necessary systems into the No Reboot collection to avoid an automatic reboot from enterprise patching.

In addition the three default collections that were setup for local sites will be renamed to:

GS-ENT-<Local Site> All Systems  (ie GS-ENT-AustinTX-W All Systems)

GS-ENT-<Local Site> No Reboot (ie GS-ENT-AustinTX-W No Reboot)

GS-ENT-<Local Site> Reboot  (ie GS-ENT-AustinTX-W Reboot)

You can continue to use these collections with existing or new deployments. The name change is meant to help identify collections the enterprise SCCM team is deploying to.
