Changing the Domain Controller in Group Policy Management Console

The Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), by default, points to the Domain Controller (DC) with the Operation Master Token (PDC Emulator role). If this Operation Master Token DC is not the closest primary DC to the OU resources, then when resources are pre-staged in Enterprise Active Directory (eAD), or when Group Policy Objects are linked, there will be delays due to replication. The purpose of this page is to explain the processes of pointing a Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) to the closest primary eAD Domain Controller.

Open GPMC.

Expand Forest: doi.net. Expand Domains. Right-click on gs.doi.net and choose Change Domain Controller.
GPMC right clicking on gs.doi.net and selecting change domain controller

The Current domain controller will be listed and a Change to option will be selected. In this example, “The domain controller with the Operations Master token for the PDC emulator” was selected which set the value of current domain controller to IGSKAHCIDC02.gs.doi.net.

Select “This domain controller” and select the domain controller from the list that is the closest primary eAD DC to the OU resources. In this example IGSBALEIDC01.gs.doi.net, which is located in the Orlando Florida office and is the primary local DC to the OrlandoFL-W OU, was selected. Click OK.
