Creating an Application for your Center

Prerequisites and Best Practices

  • Server/DFS Folder Permissions: Ensure the user DOI\DOI_SCCM_Servers has at least Read access to the folder and files
  • It is recommended that a DFS namespace be used instead of a directly named server share if at all possible.
  • Your administrative account needs permissions in your Center area in MECM. If it doesn’t, your IT lead will need to submit a Service Desk ticket to request that access.
  • Your Applications are only as good as your install, uninstall, and detection scripts. The hardest part of making an application is making resilient scripts that behave the way you want them to under varying conditions. Make sure you’ve tested your scripts on a couple computers before you create your MECM Application, because redistributing Apps with bad scripts adds a layer of complexity to troubleshooting Apps that fail.

Script templates can be found on the MECM DFS Share: \\gs.doi.net\di\SCCM\Sources\Software\Tier4\template

Alternatively, you can submit a ticket to the Service Desk and request an Application be made for you. In many cases, a Tier 4 Enterprise Application could be created at your request, as your Center would likely not be the only one that stands to benefit.
