O365 Migration Complete: Final Decommission of Google Services

The USGS email and collaboration migration to Microsoft Office 365 (O365) is now 100% complete. This means that a total of 11,233 user and shared mailbox accounts have been successfully migrated.

Google Account Deletion

Now that all USGS accounts have been migrated, DOI will be decommissioning Google services.

  • On March 9: Google Dual Access will be removed.
  • USGS users who were previously given dual access will no longer be able to access Google Drive, Sites, and other Google resources (with the exception of Google mail and calendar). If you modified any Google file after your migration, you will need to manually save those files to OneDrive or another location prior to March 9th.
  • On March 22: All Google accounts and content stored in Google will be deleted in their entirety, with NO ABILITY TO BE RESTORED.

If you are missing any documents or data or need anything from your Google accounts, please email ServiceDesk@usgs.gov by March 2.

As a reminder, every USGS employee, contractor, emeritus or volunteer has records management responsibilities for content created and preserved using communication and collaboration tools independent of the storage locations. Please consult records management USGS policies prior to the loss of your Google accounts. You can email recman@usgs.gov with questions or issues.

Google Spam

At this time, some external emails are getting caught in Google Spam. If you are expecting an email and not seeing it in Outlook, go to mail.doi.gov and check your Google Spam folder. Forward any needed mail to your government email address, mark it as “not spam,” and add the senders to your Google contacts. Do not modify any other emails, settings, or configurations in Google. This issue will be resolved the week of March 9th.

Upcoming Trainings

The USGS E&C Team continues to offer training to USGS employees on how to use O365 applications through live webinars. Upcoming webinars will be advertised in the Webinars section of the weekly NeedToKnow (NTK) email digest and can also be viewed in the USGS All-Employee Webinars Calendar. Look for webinars with “O365 Training” in the title. As a reminder, we have posted recordings of past trainings and collaboration best practices to the E&C Learning Hub.
